Projects

  • Prehospital PoCUS

Dr. Tovar serves as the EMS medical director in Tijuana, Mexico. The austere environment and longer response/transport ambulance times have led the EMS team to explore the use PoCUS has in their setting. Our fellows can get involved with curriculum development, QA, research and hands-on training.

  • Longitudinal PoCUS Curriculum

Emergency Physicians, EM residents, General Practitioners. Midwives and Medical Students from the border region learn image acquisition, interpretation and clinical integration through a longitudinal curriculum and monthly workshops. We call ourselves “UPA del Norte.” Our fellows will be welcomed to share their insights and become a member of this growing binational PoCUS community!

  • School of Medicine PoCUS Integration

PoCUS integration into the medical school curriculum is still at an early stage in Mexico. We are currently collaborating with UABC (Universidad Autónoma de Baja California) and aim to inspire and empower medical students to embrace PoCUS as part of their curriculum. Our fellows can get involved and help revolutionize the way medical students learn!

Our Goal

PoCUS is a disruptive innovation that is most needed in low- and middle-resource settings where medical professionals face daily shortages and constant barriers to meet the “standard of care.” Ironically, it is precisely in these settings where access-to PoCUS and best practices are limited.

Our goal is to bridge this knowledge gap through collaborative efforts and help introduce this novel technology.
